What an infrared illuminator is for
Digital night vision builds its image from residual light, but in complete darkness there is not enough of it. An infrared illuminator adds invisible IR light that the human eye cannot see but the sensor can - the image becomes brighter, sharper and reaches considerably further. An illuminator is therefore the cheapest way to get the most out of ordinary night vision even on a moonless night.
850 nm or 940 nm - what is the difference
The wavelength decides. 850 nm shines more strongly and offers longer range, but emits a faint red dot when looked at from the front. 940 nm is completely invisible and discreet, which you pay for with slightly shorter range. If maximum range matters, reach for 850 nm; if you need to stay completely inconspicuous to people and game, choose 940 nm. Dual models such as the TenoSight L-DUAL handle both wavelengths at once.
LED or laser illuminator
LED illuminators light a wider frame evenly and suit shorter distances and observation in cover. Laser illuminators concentrate the light into a narrower beam with a much longer reach - they suit observation at greater distances and usually allow the beam width and focus to be adjusted. We offer both technologies, so you can choose exactly according to how far and how wide you need to see.
