How to choose a trail camera
Four things decide. The way images are transferred determines whether you can reach them remotely or only at the device. Resolution affects how much detail you can make out - todays trail cameras handle 20 to 48 Mpx and video up to 4K. The night illuminator decides the quality of shots after dark and whether the device disturbs the game. PIR sensor range and its field of view tell you how large an area the camera guards: 20 to 25 metres covers a feeding site or an entrance to a plot, and a 90 degree field of view captures a considerably wider frame than the usual 45 degrees.
With transfer to your phone, or without?
This is the most important decision and it is worth a moment of thought.
Trail cameras with 4G and a SIM card send images immediately, wherever you are. They suit remote places you only visit occasionally. Our HIKMICRO M15 has the SIM card built in and you get 100 photos a month free. A movement alert reaches you in the HIKMICRO Sight app in real time.

Night shots and battery life
An illuminator with a wavelength of 940 nm is practically invisible to game and passers-by - the device does not give itself away with light. An 850 nm illuminator glows with a faint red dot but offers a slightly brighter night image. In normal use battery life ranges from four months to a year. If you want complete peace of mind, reach for a model with a solar panel - the EasyMini runs continuously and you never deal with batteries.

Do I need a SIM card for a trail camera?
Only if you want to receive images remotely. The HIKMICRO M15 has a SIM card built into the price including 100 photos a month free. Wi-Fi models need no SIM card - you download the images to your phone when you are at the device.
Will I see at night that the camera is recording?
With a 940 nm illuminator practically not, it is invisible to the human eye and to game. An 850 nm illuminator shows a faint red glow.
How long does it last on batteries?
Depending on the model and settings, from four months to a year. The EasyMini with a solar panel runs continuously without battery changes.
Can a trail camera stay outdoors all year?
Yes. All our models have IP66 protection against rain and dust and work from -20 °C to +60 °C, so you can leave them in the field the whole year.
